I did this drawing as my first
thing when I returned to Vancouver from my hometown Vernon on
one faithful trip. It looked pretty at the time, but in retrospect,
her right leg should have been further out and carried more weight
distribution and the right arm is uncomfortable too.
I sure did a lot of drawings like this at
the time. Of course, not every drawing is a success. Sometimes,
an artist gets intimidated to try new things and stick to the
old, because the potential for screwing up is minimal, but if
you do not do try new things, your talent will erode.
I decided after this picture to try doing
a lot more practical poses. The human body in action is perhaps
the most difficult thing to draw well consistently, even more
so when you are trying to get maximum effect with minimum line
mileage, as is show in gesture drawings and such. I hope the manga
projects that I am working on now will help to expand my versatility
at drawing different situations.
